If an employer arrived with nearly 1,000 jobs, $72 million in annual revenues and a rapid growth rate, the region might throw a parade.
Hold the ticker tape and floats. In this case, six companies that are already operating here are collectively generating those results, with little fanfare. They are getting recognition from Inc. magazine, which lists them among the 500 fastest-growing privately owned companies in the nation. The 2003 list appears in the issue that hits newsstands Oct. 14.
Fetch Logistics, Inc., the Amherst, NY based logistics firm, received the distinction of making the list for the 2nd consecutive year and is ranked as the #177th fastest growing, privately held company in the Nation.
The list is not comprehensive -- businesses must apply to be considered -- but it's a tonic for the region's recent plant closings and job cuts.
Inc.'s list was open to independent, privately held companies that had at least $200,000 in sales in 1998. The rankings are based on rate of sales growth over a five-year span, and the companies' 2002 sales had to exceed 2001's.
Fetch Logistics in Amherst is branching out, and intends to add more locations, said Robert Closs, the chief executive officer and a co-owner with William Wilcox and Bob Atwater.
The company is adding one sales agent per month and is connecting its employees with more advanced technology, Closs said. A national accounts representative calls on Fortune 100 companies to drum up business. "When we secure business, in order to operationally support it, we need to have people here in Western New York," he said.
